The Big Oak

This massive Southern Live Oak is more than 337 years old with a limb span of more than 165 feet and a trunk circumference of more than 26 feet – it is one of the original members of the Live Oak Society.
The fern that grows along the branches does not harm the tree; the “resurrection” fern appears dead until the rain causes it to immediately turn to a lush green.
The best light is the afternoon Golden Hour, there is also a gazebo near the tree, which has the best vantage point for a picture.

Lapham-Patterson House Historic Site

This whimsical 6,000 square-foot house is a showcase for the progressive eccentricities of the first owner, Charles Lapham, the architect Tudor Rommerdall, and the late Victorian era in general. Guests will receive a guided tour of all three floors (mobility permitting) of the house and learn about the residents, architecture, and technology of the 1885 Resort Era “cottage.” If you love it so much you just can’t leave, overnight rentals are available in the south wing of the house!
