While walking through Downtown, be sure to look for the bronze quail statues hidden among the historic buildings. You can pick up your Lost Quail Hunt first clue located outside of the door to the Visitor Center at 144 E Jackson St (accessible on evenings + weekends). You’ll find one quail near a local favorite, Empire Bagel & Delicatessen. Step inside and grab a fresh, hand-rolled bagel or a locally roasted coffee as your slow Sunday continues.


After brunch, explore the natural beauty of Thomasville. Enjoy a scenic, short drive to Pebble Hill Plantation, where you’re invited to wander the grounds and soak in the reserved beauty of the Red Hills countryside. From camellia bushes and dogwoods to azaleas and Cherokee roses, the gardens and grounds of this historic site are a wonder to behold. Drive a little further, and you’ll discover Birdsong Nature Center, a forest turned nature conservatory. Featuring twelve miles of walking trails, a butterfly garden, and an observation deck, Birdsong welcomes visitors to experience the serenity of nature. A bit of history, along with fresh air, awaits at the Power of the Past Museum. Located at the Thomasville Regional Airport, this collection of aviation memorabilia features some of the oldest and rarest engines in existence.

You can opt for a beautiful Sunday drive down Metcalf Road to Metcalfe, Georgia which will take you directly to the historic train depot. You can either park and walk down the beautiful clay roads or take a scenic drive. There are public restrooms at the nearby Metcalfe Community Park. (Note: Cell service is limited in Metcalfe; there is also not a service station in the community.)

A clay road drive down New Hope Road will lead you to the Southern charm of a town, Boston, Ga., where you can grab a bite to eat at the Boston Main Street Cafe and then experience the family heritage of Brown Pralines and Sweets with its world-famous handmade pecan pralines or delight in the free sample of the carefully crafted milk or dark chocolate confections. On your way out of town, you can take a moment inside of the Boston Presbyterian church on Old Hwy 84, the oldest continuous congregation in Thomas County; the church is always open.
